Out & About Again

We're right in the middle of the wedding fayre season and I'm out there with every other photographer competing for business. We're optimistic that we have enough "unique selling points" to make ourselves stand out from the competition, and I'm pleased to say that the bookings we've taken so far are testament to that. This weekend we'll be exhibiting at Thee Wedding Show at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. It's the first time we've actively looked for business over in the East Coast and I'm pretty excited about it. I'll report back on how it goes - there may even be a wee 2 Minute Movie to accompany it!
If anyone's looking for some last-minute free tickets to the show just let me know and I'll hook you up!
2 Minute Movies: Thee Wedding Show - Edinburgh
Written by Andi Watson on 17 Mar 2011
As I mentioned in a previous Notebook entry, I was exhibiting at Thee Wedding Show at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh last weekend. Overall, despite them spelling my name wrong in my sign, it was a huge success. We took several bookings at the event itself (always a bonus) and have confirmed several more throughout this week.
It's always nice to exhibit alongside other great Scottish photographers and see what they're up to. I'm always surprised at the lack of competitiveness at these exhibitions - the vast majority of photographers are really friendly and happy to chat. All very civilised!
I thought you might be interested in seeing the set-up of our stand and seeing my sales technique in action (!) so I hope you enjoy this 2 Minute Movie. It's pretty shaky stuff, but it'll give you a small insight into the glamourous life of the exhibitor!
Pre-Wedding Shoot: Jason & Claire
Written by Andi Watson on 06 Jun 2011
At the end of this month I have the privilege of photographing the wedding of Jason & Claire at Orocco Pier in Queensferry, Edinburgh. It's wonderful taking pictures of two people who are clearly in love - as a wedding photographer it's all about capturing those little moments that a couple share together. As I've said in this Notebook many times before, this works best when the couple are just being themselves and acting naturally. However, like many people I know, Jason & Claire are not big fans of having their picture taken and so we took the opportunity to have a quick Pre-Wedding shoot at the venue in order to help them feel more relaxed on the big day itself.

It was definitely a successful trip. Thankfully, the couple had a great time and it helped them know what to expect when we take the wedding photographs. It also gave us some great photographs!

The backdrop to several of the photos was the spectacular Forth Rail Bridge. Jason & Claire are hoping to get married on the beach just outside of Orocco Pier, which will be a wonderful setting. Let's just hope the weather is good!

Check back with the Notebook in the beginning of July for some photographs of the wedding itself, hopefully in lovely sunshine!

Claire & Jason - Queensferry Wedding
Written by Andi Watson on 27 Jul 2011
Last month I shot a beautiful wedding at Orocco Pier in Queensferry, Edinburgh. Claire & Jason are a wonderful couple. Throughout the photographs they were very much up for a laugh which made for a very relaxed day. I was glad nothing too stressful happened as Rebecca was assisting me, and at that time was 8 months pregnant, and we wouldn't have wanted to overshadow Claire's big day by having a baby at the venue!
Just like in their Engagement Shoot we used the Forth Rail Bridge as a backdrop to many of the photos. There are great views of the bridge from Orocco Pier and it just added something a little bit different to the images.
The rain just about held off which meant Claire & Jason were able to have their ceremony out on the beach. This was the first time I'd photographed a beach ceremony and I really enjoyed it. It certainly gave proceedings a different atmosphere being outside rather than inside a dark church.
All in all it was a fantastic day!

Samantha & Michael’s Wedding, Edinburgh
Written by Andi Watson on 21 Sep 2011
Last month I had the pleasure of photographing Samantha & Michael's wedding. The ceremony was held at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Musselbrough, Edinburgh, a beautiful old Catholic church. The couple were supported by a large crowd, including their wee boy, Lennon. Babies always provide wonderful pictures at weddings!

The reception was then at Heriot-Watt University which has beautiful grounds perfect for wedding photography and, rare for a Scottish summer wedding, the rain held off!
